Day 1 & 2: From Johannesburg to Mpumalanga
In the morning there is a short tour briefing in Johannesburg, then your adventure starts. You start towards Mpumalanga, where you will reach the God's Window viewpoint in the afternoon.
A first short hike takes you to the Mac Mac Mac Pools, which invite you to cool off. Afterwards we continue to the log cabins, where you can end the evening with a cosy dinner.
The next morning, you leave early for Blyde River Canyon. Along the gorges above the river you enjoy a fantastic view!
Lunch at your accommodation before continuing in the afternoon. By foot, explore the surrounding forests and waterfalls - the beauty of the landscape is impressive!
Hike Day 1: Mac Mac Pools- easy short walk to start, 2-3 km, less than an hour in total. Hiking trail with very few differences in altitude.
Hike Day 2: Blyde River Canyon - 3.5 hours hike on good trails with some stony sections.
Day 3 & 4: From Mpumalange to Kruger Private Game Reserve
Let's go on to Kruger Game Reserve. Spend the morning stalking through the reserve - which animals will cross your path?
In the afternoon we continue in a safari vehicle - will you discover all the representatives of the "Big Five"? In any case, your guide will be happy to share his extensive knowledge about ecology, flora and fauna with you.
Day 5 & 6: From Kruger National Park to Swaziland
You drive to the Kingdom of Swaziland and stay at Malalotja Nature Reserve. The hike through the area is an absolute highlight! In addition to fantastic views and a beautiful waterfall, antelopes, warthogs and zebras await you here.
Hike: 4 - 6 hours through the hills of the Malalotja Game Reserve to a beautiful waterfall. The paths are uneven and the hike has steep sections.
Day 7 & 8: From Swaziland to Zululand Game Reserve
Back in South Africa your way leads you to your next lodge. In a private game reserve directly on the Msinene River, the area is very rich in animals.
In the afternoon your guide will take you on a bush walk along the river. More than 540 bird species can be seen and with a bit of luck your search for the shy Nyala antelope will be successful.
The next morning we head to Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Africa's oldest national park is not only home to numerous wildlife, but is also a safe haven for the endangered white rhino. Have your camera ready when the rare animals suddenly emerge behind the trees and cross your path!
Afterwards you will visit a Zulu village where you will learn about the culture and life of the local people.
Let the evening end with a dreamlike sunset, accompanied by the sounds of the African bush.
Day 9 & 10: From Wilderness to Zululand Battlegrounds
You leave the African wilderness behind you and drive to the small town of Dundee. If you are interested in the colonial history of Africa, you are in the right place - there are interesting battlefields from the Boer and Anglo-Zulu wars to visit. Afterwards we visit the Talana Museum, which houses extensive collections about the rich coal mining history, glassworks, agriculture, cultural diversity and of course the extraordinary military heritage of the region on a 40 hectare, park-like site.
The afternoon is at your free disposal.
The next morning you will explore the battlefield of Islandlwana, one of the most important sites of the Zulu War. Afterwards you walk on the traces of the British refugees by the hilly Zulu country up to the Buffalo River. Before returning to the lodge, visit the battlefield of Rourkes Drift.
Hike: 4-5 hours over uneven terrain with strenuous sections and steep climbs. The water level of the Buffalo River determines whether the whole trail can be completed.
Days 11 & 12: From Zululand to Royal Natal National Park
The next 2 days you will enjoy the wonderful nature of the Drakensberg mountains. Great vantage points, waterfalls, wild animals and rock faces to climb await you on your hikes through the mountains and give you unique moments. At the end of the hike, jump into the cooling water of the natural pools - a crowning finale.
Hike: 5.5 hours in the Tugela Gorge on good trails with some rocky sections.
Day 13: Experience the Drakensberg Mountains
You start the day with an early breakfast and then head to Witsieshoek, at the foot of the majestic Sentinel Peak. On this more challenging hike you will pass a short section of climbing ladder to reach the Drakensberg Amphitheatre and the beautiful Tugela Waterfalls, which offer an incomparable view at 3000 metres.
After the hike you will go to your lodge, which overlooks the Mont-Aux/Sources mountain range. There you will enjoy your dinner with a fantastic view.
Hike: 5-6 hours on uneven paths to the top of the amphitheatre with a short climbing ladder.
Day 14: Drakensberge to Johannesburg
The morning is free and can be used again for a walk through the mountains before you drive back to Johannesburg, where the tour ends in the afternoon. From there you can either continue your journey or return home with a bag full of new experiences.
